Preschool 2-5 years Playground Equipment

Noah’s pARK and Playgrounds has installed hundreds of preschool and child care playgrounds. We know children need playgrounds which are age and scale appropriate. Preschool playground equipment (ages of 2-5) is no different.

The differences in preschool playground equipment might seem obvious, such as deck height, size and scale, etc. However, differences go beyond size and scale when it comes to preschool playground equipment. Not only must preschool playgrounds provide safe, age-appropriate equipment, preschool playgrounds need to be created to stimulate and enhance highly creative, imaginative, pretend play.

Plan deck heights and equipment size/scale carefully.
Preschoolers are exploring their physical boundaries to the maximum, thus it's very important to provide the safest playground possible. While planning lower deck heights and age-appropriate scale to insure greater safety, remember the development of gross motor skills of young children. Preschoolers express themselves through large-scale physical movement style of play. In addition to structure slides and climbers, smaller free standing items such as spring bouncers, seesaws, or tricycles are appropriate for this young age group.

Stimulate touch, sight and auditory senses as much as possible.
Easily manipulated play items such as water, sand or paint stations, building blocks, tic-tac-toe panels, or even musical panels are great for this young age. This type of playground equipment is highly stimulating on a cognitive level. Many of our manufacturers meet or exceed the needs for this age range by providing small, theme-based playhouse style buildings which are designed to foster young imaginations.

Keep safety surface materials in mind.
Surface materials for preschool playgrounds must be created to ensure a safer fall zone than most conventional surface materials.
